University of Melbourne Baillieu Research Scholarship 2025

The Baillieu Research Scholarship was established by a gift from the Honourable William Lawrence Baillieu and family, and is offered to students undertaking graduate research in Architecture, Medicine, Law, Commerce or Economics. Preference is given to lineal descendants of Australian soldiers and sailors killed, blinded or permanently incapacitated while engaged in war service, with priority being given to World War I service.

Benefits

  • A fortnightly living allowance (stipend) of $43,500 (2025 full-time study rate)
  • Relocation allowance for students who are living outside Victoria
  • Limited paid sick, maternity and parental leave

Requirements

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine, Law, Commerce, Economics or Architecture
  • Not have already completed a research qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought
  • Not have previously received a graduate research scholarship with similar benefits

Conditions

This scholarship is subject to the Graduate Research Scholarships Terms & Conditions (as amended) and can be deferred to the following academic year. In addition, you must:

  • acknowledge the contribution of this scholarship in any published or produced material which relate to the research project for which the scholarship was awarded.
  • provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship and give permission for the University to provide the report, your name and course details to the donor.

Interview Dates and Process

The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based of on academic merit and the quality of their application.

Preference is given to lineal descendants of Australian soldiers (including members of the Australian Army Medical Corps Nursing Service) and sailors killed, blinded or permanently incapacitated (ie incapacitated for life to such an extent as to be prevented from earning a normal wage) while engaged in war service, with priority being given to World War I service.
