UNSW Scholarships for Asylum Seekers and Refugee Students Commencing Term 2, 2026

UNSW offers a number of scholarships to support Asylum Seekers and Refugee students undertaking full-time coursework study at UNSW. Some scholarships will full or partial tuition fee payment, while others provide a stipend to assist with the costs associated with your studies.

Benefits

  • Full tuition fee scholarship paid directly towards tuition fees for the minimum duration of program.
  • On-campus UNSW Accommodation to a maximum value of $25,000 per annum paid directly to an approved UNSW Accommodation provider.
  • $10,000/ $5,000 stipend per annum for the minimum duration of program.

Requirements

 

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be an Asylum Seeker or Refugee currently holding an eligible visa; and
  • Have received an offer of admission* into an eligible coursework program for Term 2, 2026 by 24 February 2026.

*Students may submit an application if they have applied to UNSW for a coursework degree program commencing in Term 2, 2026 (via UAC or direct to UNSW at apply.unsw.edu.au) and have not yet received an offer of admission. However, a scholarship offer will only be made once an unconditional offer of admission has been issued.

Selection Process

 

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:

  • Academic merit
  • Aptitude and commitment to studies at UNSW

Applicants must provide evidence supporting the above criteria in the online application. Please refer to the Scholarship Application Supporting Documents for a detailed list of examples.

To support their application, applicants should submit a personal statement with their supporting documentation. The personal statement should outline the applicant's individual circumstances, highlighting any obstacles or challenges faced by the applicant in accessing education opportunities as an asylum seeker or refugee. Personal statements should not exceed 500 words in length and must be included in the supporting document file attached to the application.

Unanswered application questions or claims without supporting documentation will not be assessed. Late applications/supporting documentation will not be accepted.

Application Documents

To enable UNSW to verify that the applicant holds one of the specified visas, the applicant must include in their application a copy of their current passport, or the travel documentation used to enter Australia. Accordingly, a copy of one of the following documents must be provided:

  • Passport
  • Immicard
  • Titre de Voyage
  • PLO56 (M56)
  • Document For Travel To Australia (DFTTA)
  • Documentation and visa status will be checked using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) service. Please contact UNSW Scholarships if you are unsure about the documentation requirements.

  • By submitting an application for the UNSW Scholarships for Asylum Seekers and Refugees Commencing Term 1, 2026 (UGCE1420) you will be considered for the scholarships listed in the below table. More scholarships may be progressively added to this list.
  • To apply for UGCE1420, please register an account in the Scholarship Application Online portal, or if you have already created an account, log in and submit your application.
