The Training Centre for Current and Emergent Quantum Technologies is funded by the Australian Research Council to support 12 full time Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students who will undertake inter-disciplinary research in biology, engineering and physics aspects of quantum technologies. Projects will include the development of quantum light sources, quantum detectors and sensing with applications in timing and biology, quantum circuits and quantum computing. Projects will be available at the University of Adelaide, RMIT and the University of Queensland.
Available projects (all projects are available to students enrolling at the University of Adelaide, RMIT or the University of Queensland, as stated for each Project):
Project 1.1. Chip based quantum position navigation & timing devices (University of Adelaide).
Project 1.2. Nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond and other materials (RMIT).
Project 1.3. Single Quantum - Superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (University of Adelaide).
Project 1.4. Quantum biosensor development (University of Adelaide).
Project 1.5. Quantum chemical sensor development (University of Adelaide).
Project 2.1. Superconducting quantum circuit design (RMIT).
Project 2.2. Optical quantum computing (University of Queensland).
Project 2.3. Quantum tools (RMIT and/or University of Queensland).
Project 3.1. Laser development (University of Adelaide).
Project 3.2. Bacterial sterilisation using quantum light (University of Adelaide).
Project 3.3. Quantum light sources (University of Queensland).
Project 3.4. Compact hybrid optical-atom-chip traps (University of Queensland).

The scholarship will be for 3.5 years (PhD projects) and has a stipend of $36,161 per annum (indexed annually) plus a $10,000 top-up scholarship per annum. It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.
International applicants should be aware that the cost of mandatory Overseas Student Health Cover is not provided by this scholarship
Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia or international students who are acceptable as candidates for a HDR degree at one of the host universities (the University of Adelaide, RMIT or the University of Queensland).
Short-listed applicants will be invited to an interview. Selected candidates will be invited to submit a formal application for admission. Instructions will be provided to short-listed candidates in due course.
Expressions of interest should be submitted to [email protected] with the specific project number (e.g. Project 3.2) of one or more of the projects in the subject heading. Please ensure you include all of the application documents.
