UQ Ramsay Undergraduate Scholarship 2025

This scholarship was established in 2019 with support from The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation. The scholarships are intended for academic high-achievers who desire to make a difference in the world. They are for students who are creative and intellectually curious with the critical skills to challenge the status quo and cross boundaries, and who value discussion, debate, and the opportunity to learn from others.

We are looking for students whose endeavours are driven by compassion, a desire to better the lives of all members of the community, and a strong code of ethics.

Benefits

  • Up to 30 scolarships of approximately $20,000 per year are available to full-time enrolled students for the first 3 years of study in a Western Civilisation program.
  • Students from an Australian State or Territory other than Queensland, or from a non-metropolitan region of Queensland may be eligible to receive an additional $12,000 per year for 3 years.

Requirements

You're eligible if you:

  • are an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident 
  • will complete year 12 in the year of your application or completed year 12 in the year preceding the year of your application
  • intend to enrol full-time in the Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Western Civilisation) (Honours) program or the dual Bachelor of Humanities (Western Civilisation)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program 
  • expect to gain admission to the Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Western Civilisation) (Honours) program or the dual Bachelor of Humanities (Western Civilisation)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program on the basis of predicted senior results and any applicable adjustment factors or on the basis of special entry pathways
  • have not undertaken any previous tertiary study while enrolled in a Bachelor-level program or higher
  • will be available to participate in an interview with the selection committee on a date set by the University.

Selection Process

Applications will be assessed against and awarded based on the following criteria -

  1. academic ability as demonstrated by previous academic results and awards;
  2. each of the following as demonstrated by written application and performance at the interview:
    • interest in the questions and ideas that have shaped the world;
    • track record of contribution of the applicant to their communities;
    • creativity and critical thinking skills that challenge and cross boundaries;
    • ability to contribute effectively to discussion and debate;
    • the desire and ability on the part of the applicant to empower and better the lives of others and to make a difference in the world;
    • the qualities of compassion, empathy, and ethical behaviour;
    • the value of the opportunity provided by the Scholarship to the applicant’s future development; and
  3. overall performance at the interview.

Provided that the above criteria are met, preference may be given to up to five applicants who can demonstrate as part of their application that they are from an Under-represented Background as defined in the Scholarship rules.

The Selection Committee will interview shortlisted applicants based on their assessment of all online applications against the criteria above.

Application Documents

You will need to submit:

  • a one to two page CV (including academic achievements)
  • two written references
  • a statement addressing the selection criteria within the application form – you must respond to three questions based on academic ability, community service and compatibility with the program of study (up to 1500 characters per question)
  • a statement addressing any disadvantage (if applicable)
  • appropriate supporting evidence.

This Scholarship does not require a cover letter.
