UOW 2026 The Movement Disorder Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship carries forward the legacy of the Movement Disorder Foundation and the person who inspired it - cerebal palsy sufferer, Peter Hains. It was the objective of the Movement Disorder Foundation to make a significant difference to all individuals living with a physical disability, and also to make a significant difference to the wider community so that those living with such disability find it easier to navigate the challenges of daily living.

Benefits

$7,000 per annum for up to four (4) years.

Requirements

  • Successful applicants must remain enrolled in an undergraduate degree at any onshore campus at the University of Wollongong for the duration of the scholarship.
  • Successful applicants must remain enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Wollongong for the duration of this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder
  • Applicants must have a physical disability that impedes their ability to function due to mobility limitations
  • Preference will be given to undergraduate students, however Masters and PhD students are also welcome to apply
  • A personal statement which self-discloses that as an applicant, you have a physical disability that impacts on your mobility and physical capacity.
  • A one page statement outlining your future careers goals, with a focus on how you cope to contribute to improving the lives of people living with physical disabilities.
  • Preference will be giving to Medicine (MD) or Engineering (EIS) students with 2 of the 5 scholarships specifically reserved for these disciplines, in alignment with the legacy of the Movement Disorder Foundation
  • Successful applicants must maintain a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65
  • Community involvement as presented in the application will be strongly considered when awarding this scholarship
