University of Western Australia Winthrop Scholarship 2026

The UWA Winthrop Scholarship is one of our University's Prestigious Scholarships. This scholarship program has been developed to provide high school leavers with an opportunity to undertake an undergraduate degree course and then a postgraduate coursework degree at the University. The scholarship is for graduating high-achieving, high school students. They will show significant academic excellence, are community minded and can demonstrate achievements in a co-curricular activity throughout Year 11 and 12. A statement evidencing their leadership ambitions will also be required.

he UWA Winthrop Scholarship is one of our University's Prestigious Scholarships. Students who show significant academic potential, community-minded behaviours and outstanding achievements throughout Year 11 and 12 in co-curricular activities with an ambition to develop their leadership ability, are encouraged to apply.

Recipients of the scholarship will be invited, and expected, to participate actively in a university prescribed leadership development and mentorship program. This includes membership of the University’s mentor scheme, participation in other selected activities and periodic visits to schools to promote university education in general.

Value: up to $80,000

$10,000 per annum (six semesters undergraduate plus one year honours if applicable) and a further
$10,000 per annum (maximum eight semesters postgraduate)

(Conditions apply including maintaining a minimum WAM)

Requirements

Please note, the current application period for this scholarship is for current year 12 High School students planning on commencing their undergraduate degree at UWA in Semester 1, 2026.

To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, an applicant must—

  1. be a domestic student;
  2. in the year prior to commencing an undergraduate course at the University—
  • have accepted an Early Offer to the University, or applied through the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC) whilst in Year 12 for a place at the University, nominating a course at the University as their first preference in the first round of offers;
  • achieve an ATAR of 95 or above
  1. be a commencing student;
  2. be enrolled, or eligible to enrol—

  • full-time and

  • in an undergraduate degree course.

Interview Dates and Process

Selection Criteria

Academic achievement4, other outstanding achievements5 and an interview. Academic achievement is determined by the applicant’s Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). Outstanding achievement categories include leadership, community involvement, the arts, and sport.

Selection Process

  1. A shortlist of applicants will be interviewed by the selection panel.
  2. The selection process is conducted by the selection panel, having regard to the applicants’ academic records, achievements, completed application, supporting documentation and interview.
  3. The selection panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

How To Apply

1. Applications are called for by Coursework Scholarships and must be submitted by the due date.

2. The following documentation is required from applicants and school principals—

  • The ability to articulate their leadership vision, and evidence community and co-curricular achievements
  • School Principal’s Endorsement of predicted ATAR  submitted by the applicant’s school principal, or nominee.7
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
