Through the UQ-IITD joint-PhD program, you can receive a scholarship to study at two world-leading, research-intensive institutions – The University of Queensland (UQ) and the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi (IITD) – on multidisciplinary projects. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be offered a jointly awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from both UQ and IITD.

The value varies depending on whether the student commences the PhD program at UQ or IITD.
Requirements
There are two joint PhD student types to consider: i-students and q-students.

i-students
- Indian nationals and international applicants (with citizenship other than Australia), may be considered for admission as i-students. i-students will spend their first year of study at IITD before completing one year (or more) at UQ. They would then complete the remainder of their 4-year joint PhD at IITD.

q-students
- Australian domestic applicants and international applicants (with citizenship other than Indian) may be considered for admission as q-students. q-students will spend their first year of study at UQ before completing one year (or more) at IITD. They would then complete the remainder of their 4-year joint PhD at UQ.

- Find a research project PhD projects are advertised on the Academy website when applications open at uqiitd.org/ projects. You can apply for up to 2 projects in each application round. International applicants (citizens of countries other than India or Australia) may choose to apply through either the i-student or q-student pathway, depending on their eligibility and project requirements.
- Check your eligibility - Refer to the eligibility criteria listed in the above section of this document.
- Prepare your documentation Documents required include an academic CV, academic transcripts, award certificates, category certificate (if applicable), evidence of meeting the English Language Proficiency and research preparedness requirements. Indian nationals provide scanned copies of all competitive entrance tests including JEE, GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE, GRE etc.
- Please check for any additional project requirements, as these may vary. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) All applicants must complete an online EOI by the due date at uqiitd.org/apply.
- Submit a full application (by invitation only) If you are nominated by the Academy’s selection committee, you will be invited to submit a full application through UQ’s application system
