University of Newcastle Sydney Sports Masters Program Suite - Elite Athlete Scholarship 2025

This scholarship has been established to support and acknowledge a talented athlete undertaking postgraduate study in either the Master of International Sports Business or the Master of Sports Analytics at the University of Newcastle. It recognises the valuable contribution that high performing athletes can make beyond the field — particularly in the business of sport — and aims to remove financial barriers to study. By contributing toward tuition costs, the scholarship invests in the leadership potential of athletes and their capacity to build the reputation of the Sports Masters Program Suite through excellence in both sport and study.

Benefits

This scholarship provides a maximum benefit of $14,000 towards tuition fees for the program. The scholarship benefit will be applied on a pro-rata basis in each term of study for the duration of the scholarship (1 year for full-time study or up to 2 years part-time), providing a $1750 fee reduction against each eligible 10-unit course taken. The fee reduction will only be applied to courses required to successfully complete the program (as specified in the Program Handbook).

• Total Scholarship Value: $14,000
• Unit Value (per 10 units): $1750

The scholarship benefit and number of scholarships awarded may vary and will be determined by the funding available in each year.

Requirements

• Be commencing study in the Master of International Sports Business or Master of Sports Analytics.
• Be a current or former professional athlete or player at a national or regional level seeking to further your career in leadership and specialist roles within the sports industry.
• Be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident (including holders of a permanent humanitarian visa and New Zealand citizens with permanent residency).
• Not hold another scholarship for the same program of study.

Application Documents

• A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.

• Evidence of your professional sporting career as an elite athlete at a national or regional level.
