Maureen Brunt Scholarship 2026 in University of Melbourne

Prof. Maureen Brunt was an Australian economist and academic who specialised in the field of competition law. She received an honorary doctorate from the University of Melbourne and was bestowed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for her services to the Trade Practices Tribunal and to education. Prof. Brunt was only the third woman to hold a Professorial Chair in Australia and the first to do so in the field of Economics.

This travelling scholarship supports graduates who have demonstrated aptitude and achievement in economics and who are undertaking study in an overseas university for a postgraduate degree or diploma in economics or in a field with a major component of economics.

Benefits

The scholarship is paid in two instalments:

  1. The first instalment will be paid upon acceptance of the award and confirmation of enrolment at an overseas university or research institution.
  2. The second instalment will be paid upon confirmation of continued full-time enrolment at an overseas university or research institution.

The recipient may be requested to provide an impact statement after completion of their educational travel.

The award amount is dependant upon the number of successful applicants.

Requirements

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Have completed a degree in Economics at the University of Melbourne in 2025, or be completing a degree in Economics at the university in 2025.
  • Be intending to undertake study in Economics, or in a field with a major component of Economics, at an overseas university for a postgraduate coursework or research degree or diploma.
  • Have a letter of offer from an overseas institution to commence a postgraduate coursework or research degree in Economics or in a field with a major component of Economics.

 

Selection Process

Selection is made based on:

  • Overall course WAM and performance in economics subjects to date at the point of application.
  • The written application.

When the scholarship is open for applications, click on the “Submit an application” link, below. Your application will require:

  • A current resume
  • A copy of your current Statement of Results (available from the Student Portal) or your Academic Transcript
  • A brief (1-page) statement which describes how the scholarship will benefit your studies and which details your proposed or current course of overseas study
  • A letter of offer from an overseas institution to commence a postgraduate coursework or research degree in Economics or in a field with a major component of Economics.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an interview.
