JCU John and Janice King Scholarship 2025/2026

 

This bursary was established in 2008 with a donation from John and Janice King. This scholarship is subject to the provisions of the James Cook University Coursework Scholarships, Bursaries and Grants Policy.

Benefits

If you are a successful applicant of this scholarship you will receive $6,000 paid in two equal instalments after census date of SP1 and SP2 for the duration of your degree provided you meet the on-going eligibility criteria. Please allow up to 6 weeks after census date for payment.

Requirements

The John and Janice King Scholarship shall be open to competition among candidates who:

• Are a Papua New Guinean citizen and hold a student visa; and
• Are or will be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate course (including research) in the year of awarding; and
• Their course is offered by JCU’s College of Medicine and Dentistry, College of Healthcare Sciences or College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences.

Selection Process

The Selection Committee will, in the exercise of their absolute discretion, afford consideration to the following criteria:

• Academic merit or potential (30%);
• Commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the tropics (50%); and
• Impact the award will have on ability to study at JCU (20%).

When applying for a scholarship it is very important that you answer all the questions and include all relevant documents.  Your application and relevant documents must be submitted before the closing date. If an application is incomplete, it will not be considered.
