Flinders University Sohn Hearts and Minds Medical Device Research Institute PhD Scholarships 2025

Flinders’ Medical Device Research Institute is pleased to announce the establishment of the Sohn Hearts and Minds PhD Scholarships, enabled by a generous $540,000 donation from Sohn Hearts and Minds through their investor conference a co-investment from the College of Science and Engineering.

This funding provides a unique opportunity to advance innovative medical device research and support four high-performing PhD candidates who are passionate about improving health outcomes through technological innovation.

We have 4 PhD scholarships available at $40,000 which will be allocated from this list of projects.

Benefits

  • Annual stipend starting at $40,000 (2025 rate), indexed annually
  • Duration: Up to 3.5 years full-time

Requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have a research background in one of the project areas.
  • Be either a domestic candidate (Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident) or an international candidate.
  • Meet Flinders University PhD admission requirements, including:
    • An Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A, or equivalent qualification (at least AQF Level 8), with a research component of at least 6 months full-time study achieving Distinction (75%), OR
    • Evidence of equivalent research experience, such as a substantial first-author refereed publication or track record as an investigator on a competitive grant.
  • Be available to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University by November 2025.
