Deakin University PhD Scholarship in Youth Futures 2027

The PhD Scholarship – Youth Futures at Deakin University, Australia supports doctoral research exploring youth, mobility and migration. The research focuses on how young people who have lived abroad navigate adulthood, including decisions around returning, staying, settling and their social and economic integration. Applicants can propose research with either an Australian or international focus, provided it aligns with the Youth Futures project.

Benefits

This scholarship is available over three years and offers:

• stipend of $37,450 per annum tax exempt (2026 rate)
• relocation allowance of $500-1500 (for single to family) for students moving from interstate.

Requirements

To be eligible you must:

• meet Deakin's PhD entry requirements
• be enrolling full time and hold an honours degree (first class) or an equivalent standard master's degree with a substantial research component.

Additional desirable criteria include:

• qualitative and/or mixed methods research skills
• a background in sociology, anthropology, education, cultural studies, social geography or cognate discipline.
