Experience the heart of Australian policy-making and politics through the Australian National Internships Program (ANIP). ANIP internships are open to current undergraduate and postgraduate students from all academic disciplines.
ANIP is the only university program that offers Commonwealth Parliamentary Internships to students from across Australia. Interns are based in the offices of MPs and Senators and undertake a research project while engaging with a range of activities that shape national policy making.
ANU students can also undertake ANIP internships with the ACT Legislative Assembly, Government agencies, Diplomatic Missions, NGOs and Think-tanks. Placements are for one, two or four days per week and the ANIP course includes workshops on policy research and professional skills.
To be eligible for an ANIP internship you must:
You may be either an undergraduate or a postgraduate student, as well as an ANU student, non-ANU domestic student or exchange student from any discipline.
ANIP internship placements in the Commonwealth Government and Commonwealth Parliament are not available to students who are also currently working in the Australian Public Service (APS) or intending to work in the APS during their ANIP semester.
ANIP internship placements in the Commonwealth Government, Commonwealth Parliament and the ACT Legislative Assembly are only open to Australian citizens and may require a police check.
ANIP internships placements in local government agencies, embassies, NGOs, peak body organisations, think tanks and research centres are open to international students and exchange students at ANU.
