2026 RMIT University PhD Scholarship in AI and Education

This PhD project offers an exciting opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Learning Analytics, and Education. The project will explore how AI technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), multimodal learning analytics, and generative AI (GenAI), can transform feedback, assessment, and reflection practices in both healthcare training and broader educational contexts.

Benefits

  • A stipend of $35,886 per annum pro rata (full-time study), with a possible extension of six months. This amount is subject to indexation annually.
  • International candidates in receipt of this scholarship are also awarded an RTP International Tuition Fee Offset Scholarship (RIFOS) or an RMIT Research International Tuition Fee Scholarship (RRITFS).
  • All local candidates, Australian and New Zealand citizens or permanent residents are provided with an RTP Fee Offset scholarship.
  • Applicants in receipt of an RTP Fee Offset scholarship are not required to pay tuition fees for the maximum duration of their candidature. Paid sick, maternity and parenting leave (within the limits of the Scholarship Terms and Conditions).

Requirements

  • Hold a first-class Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Educational Technology, Health Informatics, or a related discipline.  Demonstrate strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, or similar).
  • Have experience or a strong interest in AI (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing, multimodal data analysis, large language models, deep learning) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) technologies and methods (e.g., XR/VR, information visualisation, data storytelling). 
  • Have a clear interest in the intersection of AI and education. 
  • Provide evidence of strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Experience with qualitative or mixed-methods research is desirable but not mandatory.
