2025 University of Melbourne Helen R Freeman Scholarship in Physics

The Helen R Freeman Scholarship in Physics was established with a gift from Helen Freeman and is offered to high-achieving domestic students who are enrolling in the Master of Science (Physics) and who identify as women. Preference is given to students who intend to undertake studies in the field of Astrophysics.

Benefits

  • The scholarship provides a living allowance of $15,000 per year for two years, paid in equal instalments of $7500 in April and September.

Requirements

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • Identify as a woman (cis-gender or trans women)
  • Have met entry requirements and be enrolling in the Master of Science (Physics) (or its
    successor)

Selection Process

The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on highest weighted average mark across the Physics major or the Mathematical Physics major in the Bachelor of Science (or equivalent). Preference will be given to students undertaking studies in the field of Astrophysics. Other scholarships and prizes received by the students are taken into consideration.
